Keen readers gather around France for regular book readings
and reviews, usually over a cup of tea or a glass of wine.
French News Online, in collaboration with one of these - The
Aveyron Book Group - here introduces a regular book lovers' page.
The Aveyron Book Group was set up in 2003 with just 5 members
and now with a full house at 14, it meets regularly in the afternoons
for tea, visiting each other's homes on a rota basis. (For

It is a long time since we had a thriller of any description
so it was a welcome change. Most members had enjoyed the book
hugely, feeling that the subject matter with its backdrop of
the tense and unhappy situation in the middle East between Palestine
and Israel had been very well handled with the author trying,
and succeeding, to be even handed in his treatment of both countries.
Doubts were shed on the believability of the characters, some
members felt sympathy and that the characters were well drawn
whilst others felt they were shallow and predictable. All members
agreed that the book was exciting and difficult to put down.
One member said she thought the author had both informed and
entertained, no small task in a 'block buster'
Other comments included that the book had been 'well researched'
and was 'all too believable', a negative comment was that the
book was 'almost entirely plot driven'. The eight members present
scored the book 72%, a very creditable score for such a book.
Our next book is The Carhullan Army by Sarah Hall.
