2010 Controversey
In the 2010 competition, controversy rained as fugitive from US justice, Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer, scoope 6 of the top awards , including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor. Polanski was unable to attend for fear of arrest! (see French News Online report on the 2010 Awards - click this link).

Nominations
Feature film nominations, together with the major prize categories, such as Best Director, Best Actor etc., take place on 5th November 2011. As we go to press, nominations in four categories have been announnced: Documentary, Discovery, Animated Feature, Short Film. To view these category nominations, click this link to launch the pdf.

Who Decides?
Like their American cousin, the European Film Academy membership is drawn from film industry professionals. It is these members, some 2,300 European filmakers, who vote in all the categories. Unlike the American "Oscars" however, the EFA also allow members of the public to vote for their favourite film in a special category The People's Choice Award.
