2012 Golden Globe Awards

Controversial Host
Ricky Gervais

The Star of the Show?!
It's not often that the Hollywood elite is upstaged by a show host, especially a Brit!

After the furore surrounding the performance of Ricky Gervais whilst presenting the 2011 Oscars, both press and public alike were speculating as to what mischief this bolshy Brit would get up to hosting the 2012 Golden Globe Awards, which took place on Sunday 15th January.

Did he disappoint? One thing is for sure... producers NBC must have been extremely grateful for the 7 second broadcast delay, giving them time to bleep out all the Gervais' "F" words!

Not that they could censor his whole speech. Not even his opening remarks. He flourished what he says was a list of things that the producers had said he must not mention.

"The Hollywood Foreign Press have warned me that if I insult you or cause any controversy, they would invite me back next year...

Waving his piece of paper - his list of rules - he continued...

"... a list of rules, and this is real. No profanity. That's fine. I've got a huge vocabulary.

No nudity. See, that's a shame, because I've got a huge...vocabulary, but tiny penis. It works. I don't care. It's fine.

No smut or innuendo. Or I'm not to libel anyone.

And I mustn't mention Mel Gibson this year. Not his private life, his politics, his recent films or especially not Jodie Foster's Beaver.

I haven't seen it myself.

I've spoken to a lot of guys - they haven't seen it either but that doesn't mean it's not good."

Beaver, of course, was Jodie Foster's less-than-successful 2011 movie
