"The Artist", the silent movie everyone is talking
about, scoops no less than 10 Academy award nominations, including
Best Picture.
Fresh from its success in the Golden
Globe awards, the "dark horse" of the Oscar race,
"The Artist", has been nominated for 10 Oscars and goes
head to head with Martin Scorsese's "Hugo", which has11
nominations.
They say that a week is a long time in politics... well it has
been 22 years since Margaret Thatcher was pushed from power, and,
yet, her image and her legacy are as stong as ever. She was, famously,
a lady not for turning and one that, very definitely, will be
forgotten in a hurry. In fact, lest you think that Hollywood's
fascination with Britain is satiated after "The Kings Speech"
phenomena of last year, Meryl Streep's performance as Margaret
Thatcher in "Iron Lady" has earnt her the Best Actress
Oscar nomination.
But it is the much lauded "The Artist" that will garner
most attention (and box-office enhancement?) during the countdown
to the Oscar Awards ceremony on 26th February.
So, from a smash hit movie about a speech impediment, to a
movie with no speech... all in one short year!
Below we list the categories in which the artist is nominated.
