Snob – Sine Nobilitate – and that Wedding

Why does the British royal family fascinate the rest of Europe is a question L’Expansion seeks to answer in the video clip below.

The marriage of Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton has been making headlines worldwide for the past month. The event will be watched by more than 2 billion viewers. This fascination reflects a renewed interest in monarchy as a factor of political stability, according to Jean-Marc Daniel, a professor at ESCP Europe, a Paris business school.

In the clip above the good professor (citing Wikipedia?) maintains that the word ‘Snob’ originated from the Latin phrase Sine Nobilitate or Sans Noblesse in French, just as the English slang term ‘Nobs’ denotes the exact opposite, the Nobility.
