From Rachmaninoff to Rock – 50 Decorated Pianos in Paris for 3rd Play Me, I’m Yours Event
For budding concert pianists or wannabe jazz musicians 50 street pianos decorated by artists at a live public workshop, will shortly hit the streets of Paris ahead of the 3rd edition of Play Me, I’m Yours running from 13 June to 10 July 2014.
According to the event’s Facebook page the pianos will be “located in public parks, streets and squares across the city and be available for any member of the public to play and enjoy! During this two-week period amateur and professional musicians will be invited to play at 40 mini concerts. After the event, the pianos will be donated to not-for-profit community groups, schools or hospitals”.
This video shows Jamie Cullum, founder of Play me I’m Yours — now a global event – playing in Montmartre in June last year:
Before the pianos make their debut 50 Paris artists were invited to decorate them on the forecourt of Centre Italie Deux, in the capital, see the photo gallery below.
During the annual Fête de la Musique, event which takes place on June 21 across all of France and in many cities around the world, a series of concerts by amateurs and professionals will be staged on the Champs Elysees in Paris using these pianos.
From 13 June to 10 July 2014 the pianos will be available free in the heart of Paris and its region scattered around unusual places, historical monuments, parks and gardens. Among these are Château de Champs-sur-Marne, Prado passage, Galeries Vivienne, Buttes-Chaumont park and Saint-Anne hospital gardens.
