“Barbarous” Slaughter at Charlie Hebdo – RIP Charb, Cabu, Wolinksi and Tignous
At least twelve people were slaughtered late Wednesday morning in central Paris when two hooded, heavily-armed Islamist terrorists stormed the Charlie Hebdo magazine’s editorial meeting and gunned down many of those present, including police bodyguards.
The headline picture above from a French evening paper says: Tragic bullets at Charlie Hebdo – 12 dead.
So far four people have been positively identified among the dead: magazine editor Stéphane “Charb” Charbonnier, 47; lead cartoonist Jean “Cabu” Cabut, 76; cartoonist Georges Wolinksi, 80; cartoonist Verlhac “Tignous” Bernard, 58.
As they fled the terrorists shouted “Allah Akbar” , the usual cry of Islamic terrorists committing atrocities and “We have avenged the ‘prophet’ Muḥammad” — the latter a reference to repeated demands from Islamic religious militants to “punish” the magazine for a series of cartoons satirising their religion and its founder, eye-witness accounts and news agencies reported.
The picture below is of the slain editor shortly after earlier death threats had been made by extremists from the same religion:
