What Would 007 say About the Reims Bikini Bashing Girl Gang?
Reminding the world that it was France that invented the bikini, all of 60 years ago, FRANCE 24 has posted this short history of the famous garment just as the nation heads for the beaches.
60 years ago, the TV station noted, a scandal crash dived into this very Parisian swimming-pool. The Bikini exploded on the fashion scene! Watch a short history of the bikini, from Ursula Andress’s famous scene to new designs.
The bikini burst back into world headlines this week after police arrested a gang of young girls from a deprived urban precinct in Reims for allegedly assaulting a bikini-wearing French girl sunbathing in a local park. The female thugs accused the bikini wearer of dressing “immorally”.

Social media critics — mainly female — were out in force in reaction against the allegedly Muslim morality miscreants, pumping out tweets along the lines of (and to paraphrase) “if you don’t like it you know where to hop off to”.

and as one tweeter pointed out former president Jacques Chirac was very supportive in his time:

According to one report French police are calling the incident “a fight between two rival girl gangs and say it had “nothing to do with Islam”. Three of the women aged between 18 and 24 were named as Ines Nouri, Zohra Karim and Hadoune Tadjouri. Two underage girls have not been named. All were arrested and bailed. They will all appear in court in September”.
However the more cynical reader might note that the “nothing to do with Islam” meme has become the standard reaction by authorities across Europe over clashes involving one particular religious group. In France the appalling Charlie Hebdo /Jewish supermarket murders were also initially described as having “nothing to do with Islam”. Similar dismissals were issued after a spate of murder attempts last Christmas by individuals driving cars at pedestrians, or attacking a police station.
