The inaugral opera of the season includes Erwin Schrott singing Figaro, Martina Janková as Susanna and Michael Volle as Il Conte di Almaviva.

In an echo of the hugely successful live broadcasts from the New York Met matinees that are screened in cinemas across France and the rest of the world, the Paris Opera and the UCG chain joined forces six years ago to bring audiences here a similar experience. They have based their programme on live performances from French and other major European opera houses in a season that opened October 1 2015 and runs through to 16th June 2016.

as well as the new EU initiative The Opera Platform – Free Live and On demand -an online platform for the promotion and enjoyment of opera. It aims to appeal to committed opera lovers and to those who’ve never seen an opera before.

This initiative by UGC complements that of the Gaumont-Pathé group, which since April 2008, has transmitted live broadcasts around France of Saturday matinee performances from the Metropolitan Opera of New York.

The Met’s 10th anniversary season of movie-theater transmissions features ten presentations and a holiday encore and this year started October 3 with Verdi’s Il Trovatore.

Here is the programme for all Pathe cinemas transmitting the broadcast in France. Should you miss out there is always the Met player – a subscription-based listen and watch again facility online.
